Malware Protection

Malware Protection is a term which is an abbreviation or shortening of malicious software protection. Malware is a specific form of virus which is designed to gain access to computer or system files without any user permissions. This unauthorized access to system resources and files can be for a multitude of intended purposes. This can involve gathering sensitive data, planting tracking codes, placing ad content on systems and spyware amongst a host of other malicious intentions.

Due to the sustained increase in malware’s presence both on and off the web anti-malware software is much more common. As malware is usually picked up from browsing the web specialised software is needed to combat it. Solitary anti virus software usually does not offer real time in browser protection like anti malware protection does. Anti malware software works in an almost identical way to anti virus software does by scanning all network activity for malicious software and blocking it upon recognition. It can also work retrospectively and scan computer systems for malware that has been installed on an operating system or storage device already. Anti malware protection will scan not just users files but the hidden workings of a computer such as windows registry files, structural OS (operating system) files and components of installed program files.

Malware protection is becoming more common and although is essential to having a protected computer it is often overlooked. There are many reported cases of anti malware protection actually containing malware itself. This is now less common due to google lowering malware containing sites in their search algorithm. The problem however still exists. Many brand name anti virus suites include malware protection but as an options paid for extra. It is likely that in future as competition and demand for anti malware protection increases it will be standardized. However in today’s market some providers still separate malware as an optional extra. The reality of the risk of malware is such that it is as big a threat or an even bigger threat than traditional viruses. Users concentrate most of their computer attention to the web browser and not programs.

There is also a down side to anti malware protection in that it uses real time protection scanning. This is a downside because it is heavily depending on your computer’s resources which slow down other operations. If you are gaming, video editing or photo editing then anti malware protections may have a severe impact on program performance. For other day to day activities the running of anti malware protection should be fine and not slow down your computing activities.
